Human Factors Engineer, Stratford, CT, 2-year Contract
Description:
Support Human Factors/Systems Engineering team for a large
helicopter program. Work with other engineering disciplines on
human interfaces to ensure that human factors engineering,
requirements and goals are met.
Work with Senior Human Factors Engineer to analyze contract
requirements and work with team to identify compliance
approaches to requirements. Write Test Plans for Human Factors
Requirements (lighting, egress, workload, reach & accommodation)
and coordinate with other disciplines on test activities. Prepare
and write Test Reports documenting results for submittal to the
FAA and customer. Human Factors Testing will include areas of
workload, lighting, reach and accommodation, land and underwater
emergency egress, aircrew alerts, etc…
Interface with internal system engineering disciplines and external
system subcontractors in gathering data and evaluating HSI.
Review subcontractor test plans/reports for Human Factors
requirements and support conduct of subcontractor test activities.
Participate in mission systems reviews and usability testing to
ensure that Human Factors requirements are met and Human
Factors considerations are designed into the systems throughout
the design process.
Education Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Human Factors/Psychology
with 4-6 years of experience in the field of Human Systems
Integration or System Engineering, or a Masters Degree.
Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and human factors
issues affecting the design and certification of advanced flight
deck designs and flight display systems in FAR 29 aircraft or ability
to research and analyze regulations.
Position Requirements:
Knowledge of Human Factors Guidelines and Military Standards;
Experience in human factors testing preferred and Department of
Defense program.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
required. Good writing and analytical skills.

The Human Factors Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all
products be optimally designed for the needs of the end-user. This
will be achieved through detailed user analysis for specific
designs, broad investigations that underpin existing and future
designs and the education of the product development team. In
addition, the position will be responsible for instituting a Human
Factors design philosophy and methodology within the product
development organization (functionally defined as R&D
Engineering, Product Management and Operations) that will
ultimately yield innovative and high value products. This position
will also provide technical and development support for the
Custom Seating business.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Provide leadership and direction on product development teams
(for both mobility and seating products) as it pertains to the
usability, ergonomics and optimization of the product for the end-
user.
● Lead development projects that enhance the product
development organization’s core understanding of optimal design
for the mobility products user.
● Develop systems, tools and methodologies that institutionalize
the on-going practice of Human Factors Engineering within the
product development organization.
● Work closely with the commercial team to bridge market
knowledge and broad product requirements with the specific
needs of the end-user.
● Provide education and training for the product development
team with respect to Human Factors Engineering and any findings
associated with specific projects or broader development projects.
● Responsible as the lead technical support for the custom seating
group, designing new products and support for existing products.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Primary
· B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Human Factors)
· Advanced degree in Human Factors Engineering or
Clinical/Rehabilitation Engineering
· Minimum of 5 years practicing as either a Human Factors Engineer
or Clinical Engineer
· Self-motivated; identifies what needs to be done and takes action
· Ability to provide quantifiable data supporting specific designs or
requirements
· Demonstrated experience in working with end-users
Secondary
· Demonstrated capability in product design and development
· Demonstrated ability with problem solving
· Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, tolerances,
and technical specifications
