2008 Chapter Activity Summary
The North Texas Chapter hosted one event during 2008. On
October 28th, a meeting was held at the Addison (Texas)
Conference Center to celebrate Ergonomics Month. Lou Adams, a
chapter member with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, gave
a talk about the role of the human operator in today's growing
automated control subsystems using personal anecdotes from his
long career as a human factors and ergonomics engineer to
illustrate his points. Kelly O’Connor, a chapter associate,
presented an overview of the office ergonomics program at Texas
Instruments highlighting successful elements of this mature
program including an employee office assessment process,
furniture selection, online employee training and an electronic
accessory catalog. Chapter President Vicki Missar with Aon gave a
talk about “The Ergonomics Value Proposition in a Recession”
which highlighted ways human factors and ergonomics
professionals can prove their value to their employers and
customers during difficult economic times. Chapter Vice President
Camille Major with Raytheon gave the final presentation of the
evening entitled “Using Virtual Analysis for Cost Savings in Your
Organization” which focused on the ergonomic benefits of using
CAD modeling in the design process. The chapter officers also held
a meeting during November to discuss the direction of the chapter.
